Green circuits for walking inside the Campus

Walking is a very good exercise. There are many green circuits within the campus where you can enjoy walking and be at ease with nature.

 1) Butterfly Conservatory

This is located near Gate no.2 which is on the farthest western end of sector –A of campus. Initially funded by State Govt. and Institute, this place is meant, as the name suggests, for conservation of butterfly.  Efforts are made to facilitate habitat and development of butterflies. Spread over an area of 5.25 Hectare , this area comprises of  a pond, mud-paddle,  lotus pond,    Mud-pots (Pitchers) to provide five kinds of scented water , 500 m  long paved footpath with stone benches to have  rest. When you will walk with normal speed (approx. 4kmph) and complete one round on path way, approx. 30 calories will burn. This area is having thick plantation comprising of plants details of which are enclosed.

 2)  Sports complex

Situated on southern side of campus, this complex consists of ,tennis court, basket ball ground, futsal ground, and open air theatre (capacity 1500 seats) as out door facilities. Apart from this, the indoor facility includes badminton courts(4 nos), table tennis hall(4tables), carom, chess, music room, gym, swimming pool of size 25mX25 m(half of Olympic size), and squash courts(2 nos). Watering of plants is done by Solar powered submersible D.C. pump.

 3) Tree museum

The   campus has about 110 species of plants situated all over the campus of 150 acres. With a view to have all species of plants at one place, the land between sports complex and Horticulture office, is being developed to have every of plants that is available in the campus. This will help visitors to see all species of plants at one place instead of travelling through entire campus.

 To facilitate walking, a paved path 660 m long has been constructed.  Out of total 110 species of plants available in the campus, so far 45 species of plants exists in tree museum. Plantation of trees is in progress.  A natural appearing pond is getting developed in the area. In future this may serve as natural source of water for wild animals etc.

When walking along path of 660 m. with normal speed of 4kmph, approx 40 cal. energy will burn.  Two guide maps are displayed, one at entrance at Horticulture office and another  behind solar pump at sports complex.

 4) Jamun Baug

This small garden is located on eastern side of girls hostel. This park is developed as part of Hariyaali  Mahotsav in 2014. It has 60 nos Jamun (Eugenia Jamboluna) trees planted in 2014.  A  172 m . long paved path has been constructed with a view to facilitate walking through park.

 5) M.D.P

This is situated at North-East side of sector-A of campus. Institute has developed a tradition of getting trees planted by guests. This site has many plants planted by guests. Two boards indicating such details are placed on left side of building. Five olive trees can be seen on parking area.

On north side of building a park is being developed by way of planting only scented flowering trees in rows. This is with a view that after completion of plantation, throughout the year some variety of scented flowers will be blooming. So far Madhukamini(MURRAYA PANICULATA) , Harsingar/Parijaat (NYCTANTHES ARBOR-TRISTIS) and Rat raani (CESTRUM NOCTURNUM) plantation has been done. Hari-Champa (Artabotrys hexapetalus) and Jasmin/Moghra( Jasminum sambac) plants are added in next  rows.
